Closer to God Newsletter (Work as Worship)

Thank you for joining me, I appreciate your time today.

I've made it my mission to help bring people closer to God, by showing them their purpose through scripture.

Today, we'll touch on something almost everyone can relate to.

Working on a project, or going to a job when you really don't want to.

Struggling to find the meaning for all your hard work.

We have all been there. I have countless times.

We can all look back on the jobs we've held and wondered how we got through it.

Sure, financial responsibilities are usually the motivator.

In time though, we start to search for the meaning of what we do everyday, and that's where it gets difficult.

The verse I chose today, continues to help me in life.

It shifted my mindset and made me understand the true meaning of why we're called to do the tasks we do each day.

Let's go back into the New Testament this week, where the Apostle Paul is writing to the Colossians.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

Colossians 3:23-24 · New International Version

Here's a Brief Background...

In this letter Paul is writing to the Colossians while in prison, and most of the letter was addressing some false teachings infiltrating the church at the time.

The context of this specific verse, was where Paul was giving advice on the aspects of Christian living and how it applies to relationships in society.

Paul shifts the perspective of the routine often mundane aspect of work and points out its true meaning, that of, an act of worship and service to Christ.

Let's Break It Down...

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart- Show commitment, be excellent, give it your best. All of this effort is for God, who provides all you need.

As working for the Lord, not for human masters- In life, all sorts of jobs and bosses will come and go over time, but God is now, always and forever. We work for him, who always has our best interest in mind and heart.

Since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward- This is the promise we should work for and from an eternal perspective. Every task is for the lasting reward God has in store for us through his grace.

It is the Lord Christ you are serving.- A lasting reminder, that he has our back, and is in control. God knows what's best for us. We serve Godly standards, not human ones.

Take Some Action...

How can we instill "work as worship" into our lives and routines?

Be Intentional in Our Work- Start out our day with a prayer, asking God for strength, guidance and perseverance. Set intentions for the day ahead with a service to God mentality.

Strive for Excellence- Don't make human approval the #1 priority for all your work. Make your efforts a reflection of your commitment to God and his plan for you.

Attitude- Your attitude can make or break any work project. Maintain a grateful mindset in your work, even when things get difficult. When others witness your positive, God-centered attitude, it becomes a game changer.

Promote Integrity- Showing honesty, good character, and strong work ethic upholds your integrity. This promotes your service to God.

Take a Break- Remember to rest. God intentionally put a rhythm into work, and resting is a big part of it. We need to honor it, by connecting with him during breaks, with prayer or meditation, it re-energizes us.

To Sum it All Up...

The path to God's purpose for us is not always straight forward.

More times than few.. we go through many different directions with jobs and careers to figure out how we fit into his overall plan.

The key is patience and perseverance with prayer.

When we look back on our lives we begin to see a pattern of how we got to where we are today.

By elevating everyday work and providing a framework as service to God, it provides the affirmation we are looking for in life when we realize we're doing it for God's purpose and plan for us.

Here's a Prayer For You...

Dear Heavenly Father,

You are my unwavering refuge, and my deepest desire is to serve You.

When I view my work through a human lens, it can feel pointless.

But when I see it from Your divine perspective, I recognize that each task draws me closer to fulfilling Your eternal purpose for me.

Grant me the wisdom to approach every job, task, and assignment with a spirit of positivity, knowing that I am honoring You through my efforts.

Help me to inspire others and advance Your kingdom here on earth.

By Your grace.

Amen.

I hope this message helps you get closer to God today, and provides wisdom for you in the future.

Please pass this letter along to those who need to hear it.

Please pray for me, and always know I am praying for you.

Have a blessed day!
