Selfless Love- Closer to God Newsletter

Do you want to make the world a better place?

You've come to the right place, as today's verse shows us how to eliminate selfishness from our lives and assist others.

My goal has always been to bring you Closer to God by simply making His word a part of your life.

If we truly "live" by His Word rather than just reading it, extraordinary things will happen.

You'll find words written long ago hold even more relevance in the world we live in today.

The Apostle Paul wrote today's verse to those he cherished, encouraging them to embrace an attitude of kindness and caring while addressing any selfish pride within the community.

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others."

Philippians 2: 3-4 · Christian Standard Bible

Here's a Brief Background...

This verse is part of a letter the Apostle Paul wrote to the Christian people in Philippi while he was in jail in Rome.

The Philippians had a special bond with Paul, as they always supported his mission, and Paul never let his surroundings or situation stop him from spreading the message of Jesus Christ.

His goal was to emphasize the importance of humility and service to one another, living as Jesus lived, without selfishness and with love.

Let's Break It Down...

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit..

This is rather self-explanatory; no one would honestly want to live in selfish ambition or be conceited. Sometimes, we engage in these behaviors without even realizing it. The world can take over and impact those around us. Daily self-reflection helps us recognize when this happens.

But in humility consider others as more important than yourselves.

Humility is essential in our lives. Imagine if everyone prioritized someone else's needs over their own. Elevating another person above yourself is the first step to overcoming selfishness in your life.

Everyone should not look to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.

When we prioritize others over our own needs, wonderful things happen. A caring attitude emerges, and the world becomes a better place to live. Try it, and you'll see.

Take Some Action...

Put Others First.

Look for ways to serve others, whether through volunteering, acts of kindness, or simply taking the time to listen. You'll discover countless opportunities to prioritize others over yourself.

Examine the Motives in your Life.

What are your intentions, actions, and decisions? Ensure they are not aimed at elevating yourself above others; rather, focus on benefiting others.

Practice Empathy.

Be yourself and really listen to those around you. Show kindness and take a moment to care about what others need.

Encourage and Support Others.

Encourage others; do not bring them down. Words and actions are important. Celebrate the successes of others and offer them your support. Offer help to others without expecting anything in return.

To Sum it All Up...

We can make the world a better place by putting others' needs ahead of our own.

Selfishness cannot flourish when we take the time to listen to someone who needs to speak or requires our assistance.

Imagine the impact: if everyone embraced this mindset, no one would feel alone or forgotten.

Here's a Prayer For You...

Dear God,
Help me to follow Your example by putting the needs and concerns of others before my own.

In moments when selfish ambition or pride tries to take root, guide my heart back to humility.

Teach me to truly listen to those around me and offer a helping hand whenever I can.

Fill me with Your love so I can share it abundantly with others, just as You have loved me.

Amen.

As we enter the Advent season leading up to Christmas, now is the perfect time to spread and embody the true "reason for the season!"

I hope today's verse brought you closer to the life God wants you to lead.

Please share this message with others, and remember that I'm praying for you. Please pray for me as well.

Have a blessed day out there.

Merry Christmas! For many, this holiday is considered the best of the year, particularly for Christians worldwide, as it marks the birth of Jesus, the savior of humanity. This week, I am stepping away from my usual format of applying a scripture verse to our lives, as it is now the best time to reflect on when the Word became flesh and dwelled among us. Jesus was born and saved us from a life of sin. This means everything to us, as this marks the beginning of Jesus's humble journey. Let's go...

The Christmas season is definitely upon us. Can you feel it? This is a joyous time of year for so many, but this is a hard time to get through for countless others. The stress and consumerism surrounding the next two weeks can be overwhelming and completely overshadow this season's true meaning. For Christian believers, this is when we celebrate the birth of the Savior Jesus Christ by spreading the good news to all who want to hear. This is the ideal time to express our faith and show...

Thank you for taking time today to make God's Word a part of your life. One thing I've experienced in my life is noticing how many people seem so lost at times. They go day to day wondering if what they do makes a difference. Is that you? If so, today's verse will definitely help. When you find yourself lost while trying to reach a destination on a road or trail, using a map or GPS is the most effective method for finding your way. But what about when we are lost in life? What map or advice...
